WHITE NOTLEY CARPET BOWLS CLUB

Formed in the late 80’s in conjunction with the White Notley Village Hall Committee who purchased the original equipment, in 1990 it was decided to ‘break away’ and form the White Notley Carpet Bowls Club as from 1 January 1991. The Village Hall was reimbursed for the equipment, and we joined the Essex County Carpet Bowls Association winning the old Central League at our first attempt.
Over the years we have played thirty winter league seasons, winning four times, playing 452 matches along the way. [one member having played in every one]
In the early days we played in a summer singles competition, organised by Earls Colne Carpet Bowls Club, latterly competing in the County run competition 2001 to 2017 winning twice.
In 1995 the first Notley Charity Fours competition was organised in memory of Pat Mace, a much loved member, run over three days, this was held each July for ten years raising a total of £11,000 for Cancer Research. A brilliant effort by all those involved with the club at the time.
An annual pairs competition was started in 1992 and was held for several years until Covid reared its ugly head, effectively stopping all forms of competition. The cup awarded to the winners was renamed the Bob Dolling Trophy in memory of a former club member.
Inter-club competitions have also been held over the years with members competing for trophies in various disciplines. The sitting Chairperson nominates a charity for the club to support and active fund raising is supported by the club members.
